In 2025 Lisbon tightened its tuk-tuk rules: operators must be licensed, certain central streets and parking zones are restricted, and electric vehicles are favoured in the historic centre. For visitors the takeaway is simple — book a licensed, electric operator and you’ll ride legally through the old town while unlicensed ones get turned away.
What changed
- Licensing: operators need official registration (ours is RNAAT 895/2023, Turismo de Portugal).
- Restricted streets & zones: the city limited tuk-tuk access and parking in parts of the centre to ease congestion.
- Electric favoured: low-emission rules push the historic core toward electric vehicles.
Why it matters for your booking
A licensed, electric operator can legally take you where the rules are strictest — exactly the narrow, scenic streets you came to see. Ask for the registration number and confirm the vehicle is electric.
